HeX Productions host Nottingham’s first Global GovJam
Global GovJam is an international event that applies tools and techniques of service design to the world of government and the public sector. Working around a common theme, small teams meet at multiple locations to prototype innovative approaches to challenges faced by the public sector. At the end of the two days, they upload their results and publish them for the world to see.
A bit of background
GovJam had grown from the initial idea which forms a Global Service Jam. Each Jam is a non-profit volunteer activity organized by an informal network of service design afficinados, who all share a common passion for growing the field of service design and customer experience.
The first Global Service Jam took place in March 2011, where more than 1200 participants in more than 50 cities created around 200 unique service designs around the Theme “(Super)HEROES”.
A sister event, the Global Sustainability Jam, took place in October 2011. Around 800 participants in more than 40 cities created over 100 services, products and initiatives around the theme “PLAYGROUNDS”.
In 2012, the first GovJam was initiated by Protopartners, The Australian federal Government and WorkPlayExperience. WorkPlayExperience initiated the global version, Global GovJam, in 2013.
An introduction to Service Design:
What is jamming and how do we do it?

Do you have the passion to make a difference?
HeX Productions are organising the first GovJam in Nottingham and would like to encourage collaboration between the local authorities, the NHS, national government departments, as well as the private and voluntary sectors. What they all have in common is a curiosity to try new ways of working together around public sector opportunities and issues.
We have 48 hours to rock the public sector:
- Tuesday 5 June, 6:30pm to 8pm: The organisers gather to discover a global theme, which is kept secret until jams all over the world have seen it
- Wednesday 6 June, 9:30am to 5pm: We split into teams and work together to design and prototype new services inspired by the theme.
- Thursday 7 June, 9:30am to 5pm: More testing and making up to 3pm when everyone shows what they’ve made and shares their work online to the global community
