Meet Caroline, our Content Creator, delivering content...and babies.

Caroline Newson

Caroline is a comms genius with a local authority background. Understanding the challenges of budget constraints and customer focus, Caroline increases team morale and sets a precedent for project delivery speed. If you want something doing quickly and effectively, Caroline delivers….. ironic because she is now training to be a midwife, with HeX supporting her all the way. Everyone loves Caroline…. she’s an absolute gem.

Tell us about yourself and how you got to where you are now:

I started in the world of Communications in 2003 when I started working for a bank in internal comms. That was where I got my love for content and Intranet. I then went to a council, spent the next 10 years moving between councils with increasingly senior roles. I don’t mind PR but prefer internal comms and web, as well as social media. Now I’m freelancing at HeX because I met James whilst working in the council and alongside other career aspirations.

What does your average day consist of?

I write blogs for our clients, help them with their social media. I write for different clients’ websites and sometimes more diverse things like writing adverts. If I’ve not got Microsoft Word open, am I even at work!?

What’s the favourite part of your job?

I really like the team. It’s a great bunch of people and I think we work really well together. We all do different jobs, but their input often helps. I like working for a diverse range of clients, especially the private sector as it’s nice to be creative and not have to get everything approved. But, equally, we do have some local government clients, it’s nice to keep my hand in there too.

Who do you admire?

Subtly angling for me to mention him…Ben and his email marketing! But also, in the comms world theres an account I used to use a lot in local gov called Comms 2.0. They are good at doing creative comms when you’ve got decreasing budgets and teams. A lot of what I read now, the stuff on their website is really useful. Things like how to shoot video using mobile phones – gave the council whole new type of content

What is something few people know about you?

That I had a baby on Christmas Day…in 39 minutes! And I don’t like pasta – it’s slimy and boring.

What toppings would you choose on a pizza?

It would have to involve BBQ sauce and chicken. Sweetcorn and maybe mushrooms too. Controversially I do like pineapple on a pizza, but not on BBQ chicken.

What are your top three pet peeves?

I get very annoyed about people not knowing the difference between ‘there’, ‘they’re’ and ‘their’ and ‘your’ and ‘you’re’ – there are varying degrees of that problem, but they’re the two that annoy me the most because they happen so much. It just makes me sad. I hate clickbait too, I probably miss out on genuine news sometimes. Spitting and littering is very annoying too.

If you could be anywhere, where would you be?

A Greek island! I really want to go island hopping. There weather is perfect, and the sea is really quite clear.

Personal Motto?

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail!

HeX’s bespoke website theme

Written by Caroline.Newson

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English.
